Different Book Fair Vendors Book Fair Vendor: Junior Library Guild Type: Parent Donations Summary: Junior Library Guild offers a book fair where the parents donate $10, the school orders books from the back list at $5 each, so the library receives 2 books per donatation. When the books arrive, the students get to choose the book that they would like to donate to the library. They get a name plate in the front of the book that says that they donated the book and they get to be the first person to check out the book. Advantages:
1) Acquire new books for the library.
2) Very little work involved on the part of the librarian, no scheduling is involved.
3) Students get to choose books that they want to read and dedicate to the library
4) Books are being placed in the hands of the students to read.
5) Very little advertising is involved. Disadvantages: 1) Not a whole lot of extra profit 2) New book selection is limited to the back list.
3) Students don't get to keep the books.
Book Fair Vendor:Barnes & Noble Type:In Store Summary: Barnes & Noble book fairs are held in the Barnes and Noble store locations. The librarian works with a representative who helps to coordinate the book fair. Barnes and Noble will try to schedule your book fair to include special events to encourage patrons to come and support the book fair. Advantages: 1) The book fair takes place at the local store, so it doesn't disturb the library.
2) Barnes & Noble handles all the money.
3) Scheduling is not as much of a problem. However, someone needs to be there.
4) Wide variety of selections.
5) Students get to keep the books that are purchased, which accomplishes getting books into their hands for them to read, books of their choice.
6) Barnes & Noble can plan to have specific events to coincide with the book fair to draw more people in.
7) Barnes & Noble provide ready-made materials for advertising. Disadvantages:
1) No control of the people coming in.
2) Must be scheduled after school hours.
3) Proceeds are given in store credit.
Book Fair Vendor: Scholastic Type: In School Summary: Scholastic Book Fairs offer preschool, elementary, middle and buy one get one free book sales that include books from Scholastic Publishing. The book fair arrives to your school in carts and boxes. The carts fold out to display books on shelves and the boxes are organized by differnet types of books. A Scholastic representative will come and meet with the librarian to help plan and maximize profits. Prior to the book fair starting a tool kit will come that includes advertisements, ideas, flyers for the students and other helpful items. Many times a representative will come to the school to assist you in assembling the book fair. Advantages:
1) You have control over who participates in the book fair and play a major role in the success.
2) There is a wide variety of books for the age level, but Scholastic will include books for adults or younger children as well.
3) Scholastic provides you with all of the advertisements.

Also, we felt that Junior Library Guild's book fair may be a problem financially for parents and students considering the state of our economy. Scholastic offers great incentives, help planning the book fair and a wide range of merchandise that many students and parents can afford.
